To potential buyer : be aware that the quoted range is usually
"outdoor under optimal condition". If you are indoor (especially if
surrounded by concrete-steel structure such as in shopping centre),
the actual range will be much much lower. The sound will be very noisy
since it is analog device (much like the cheapie indoor cordless
phone).

If you want good range, you will need to go for larger units with 1W
(or higher) output but these are usually meant for industry
applications so they tend to be quite expensive & bulky.

Info: Motorola T5720 has 1W output. Out of this, about half (500mw)
is absorbed by my brain cells.

Nah, I think your brain is absorbing less than 500mW since the signal
is transmitted (almost evenly) in all direction (what's the name
again?). Even if you place it right next to your ear when listening &
talking, your head is blocking only about 1/4 of the area.

Beside for walkie-talkie, you are supposed to hold it at about one
foot away when talking. I find that the sound quality is better that
way, else the other side will hear distorted sound (maybe the mic is
overloaded).

Omnidirectional. True, true.

OK. Not half, but certainly more than a quarter cos I got a big head.
